application deadline: September 18, 2026, 12:00 noon CET
We’re hiring a First-Level Technologist to join a hands-on role at the intersection of software engineering and digital heritage. You’ll help set up and expand an experimental lab at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano — building the infrastructure that lets researchers run, analyse, and reverse-engineer networked software-based art from the 1990s to today, often on obsolete operating systems, languages and libraries no longer supported anywhere else. You will work with an interdisciplinary team of technology-affine humanists and artists. Collaborative publishing is very welcome.
Your work: manage a Linux server, develop and integrate tools for analysis, help establish a Software Art Lab, reverse engineering and restoration of digital artworks, and shape interfaces for both technical and non-technical users.
Ideal for profiles in Applied Computer Science, Software Engineering, Media Informatics, or Conservation/Restoration of New Media and Digital Information who want technical work with real cultural stakes.
